- SarahMummy
- I'm a slightly stressed-out married Mum of two lovely boys aged 11 and 9 and a gorgeous girl of 7. I work part-time, but I'm very much a full-time Mum. You can usually find me hanging around freezing to death on a touchline somewhere. Or see me running round town in glow in the dark lycra. You won't often catch me scoffing chocolate, though, I do that in private. PR friendly. mumofthreeworld@gmail.com

Acne solution?

A couple of months ago I blogged about a dilemma I am 39 years old and I have acne. I've had it since I was 12. It's not TERRIBLE acne - it wouldn't look too awful on a teenager - but it's pretty bad for a woman in her 30s. Or even a woman in her 20s. I don't know anyone else with acne.
Anyway, my dilemma - should I take some strong drugs from the hospital? The positive - it would cure it. The negative - I would get VERY DRY skin. I already suffer from painful eczema (although only on my hands), so the prospect of very dry skin was pretty scary. But the prospect of clear skin was pretty excting.
a) a reader told me she'd used it and it made her skin so dry even her EYEBALLS were dry (yuk) and a few months after coming off it, her acne came back
and
b) I was contacted by a reader with a solution.
This reader is a nice lady I've tweeted a few times. I knew nothing about her other than that she was a nice lady to tweet to. It turns out that she does PR for a rather exclusive product that could be the answer to my skin's prayers.
This is none of your crap. SQOOM is so exclusive, the only place it is available in the UK is Harrods Pharmacy, no less. Get me!
It is marketed as an anti-ageing product, but it also apparently works wonders on acne AND eczema.
I am going to do test out the SQOOM for six weeks - for acne, eczema and, as a special treat to me, anti-ageing. I think I look OK for 39, but who is going to turn down the chance to look a few years younger? Not me.
I've been advised to use the SQOOM every other day. I was also advised to come off my current medication. This would be ideal, but I admit I'm nervous, particularly as my skin is likely to get better before it gets worse. So I'm not going to come off it just yet. I really hope my skin has started to get better again before the six weeks' trial is up.

Currently I'm on Lymecycline (tablets) for my acne and use Zineryt lotion - both on prescription from the doctor. For my eczema I use Mometasone (steroid) cream and wash in Dermol lotion, which I also use as a moisturiser. These are both from the GP too.
If things go well with the SQOOM, I would like to cut down on the prescribed medication - particularly the Lymecycline and the Mometasone.
I'm going to have a good read through of the instruction booklet and then I'm going to give it a go! I'll keep you posted about how I get on.
I was lent a SQOOM unit and given gels for acne, eczema and anti-ageing to help my skin and for the purposes of this blog. I am not receiving payment for the reviews and all opinions are my own.
Currently SQOOM is only available from Harrods Pharmacy or online at www.sqoom.com The starter pack costs £529 for the device and two gels. Gels retail at £79 and last approximately two months.
This is me clean, spotty and au naturel

It's hard to take a photo of your own hand, but this is my eczema. Sometimes it bleeds in up to 30 places, but it's not so bad here

It looks good, doesn't it? Let's hope it works

Good luck Sarah - stick with it and I'm sure you will be impressed with the results. And the best bit ... it's 100% natural ... no drugs, no medication, no steroids.
I still get spots, I'm not sure it's acne but sometimes it's quite bad and it can get me down some days, so I can go half way to understanding why you faced such a dilemma. I hope this product works, I will be really interested to hear more. Good luck with it and you definitely look pretty damn good for your age. x
I still get spots - not really acne, but enough to be irritating. I kind of thought the spots would disappear when I hit my 20s and certainly didn't expect to get any in my 40s.
Hope this new treatment works for you.
Thanks very much, everyone! Kind of glad to hear I'm not the only one to get spots, but wouldn't wish them on anyone at the same time. I am never spot-free - the medication just keeps them down to a bearable level. That photo is typical - sometimes I have less, sometimes I have more.
Thanks, Puffindiaries, I appreciate that! That's me with no moisturiser and hair back. I think I look slightly better in real life! x
This is brill - the wonders of twitter eh?! Great to be able to 'review' something that you actually need and get the product for free (especially when it costs that much!) I do hope it works for you.
It certainly is! Thanks very much. I thought it would be a hassle, but it's been no bother so far. Obviously no results yet, but watch this space...
I’m so sorry to hear about your acne problems and the dilemma it brought you. Unfortunately, with so many external factors out there, acne can strike anyone at any age these days. I’m glad that someone has recommended a product that can help you battle acne. Looking forward to hearing your progress!
When you have eczema, you really need to consult with your doctor on what cream to use. There are creams that might not be suitable for your condition and may have adverse effects. You have to make sure that the one you’ll be using will not just cure it, but it will keep your skin smooth and healthy at the same time.
Thanks very much, everyone. There will definitely be an update, Marc!
Shavonda, I've had eczema since I was 8 and I'm 39 now, I have consulted the doctor many times over the years and have used a wide variety of creams in that time. In recent years I've relied on steroid creams in the winter months, which I know will do long-term damage, but are necessary in the short-term. I am willing to give anything a try and if it doesn't work, I will stop. Thanks for the advice.
You’ve been suffering from eczema since you were eight years old? Oh, it must’ve have been difficult for you. I hope you’ll really find the right treatment for you. For now, you just have to endure it and use what works best for you. At least, you have something there that will help you ease your condition.
Yes, eczema since I was 8! Hopefully this will work for me and if it doesn't I will go back to the steroid creams. I only use them in winter, so it's not the end of the world. Thank you very much for commenting.
